Our Clients Say:
Mitchells Construction carried out the conversion of a dilapidated existing three car garage at our home. The work involved a number of features including the erection of an oak frame to provide structural support, provision of under floor heating; creation of a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and the creation of new windows and doors.
Mitchells Construction also carried out various external works in association with the project, a grass banked Ha-Ha wall and a Folly wall of traditional appearance together with a formal pond and related pathways.
We were and still are extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the final outcome. We have since asked them to build a front extension in oak framing and a first story bathroom with which we are also delighted.
I am happy to recommend the firm and Ben and Joe the people most involved in the works.
The key reasons I chose Mitchells Construction to build my house were that they would incorporate project management and see the project through every stage of the process themselves. This was my first house build and I wanted sustainability to be at the heart of the process and reflected as much as possible in all the details and decisions. I had researched many of the aspects of environmental building and knew what was important to me. Living alone on site it was important that I had a well-kept site with builders who were respectful, communicated well and had a good attitude.
I am so pleased Ben and Joe did the work as I just love the house and garden I now have. Not only do I love the result but neighbours and passers-by tell me they appreciate this lovely home that blends into the environment overlooking a nature reserve. They paid great attention to every detail and met and overcame the many challenges that this project presented. Neighbours commented on how tidy and polite my builders were especially important as building on a one-way track with access issues. Importantly they both advised me on products and were guided by what I wanted and where necessary helped me choose, obtained quotes etc. I presented many new challenges with my eco build such as a rainwater harvester which needed to be converted to a grey water system when deciding this after installation. Moving the sewage treatment plant when the high-water levels were discovered; Laying brick paths instead of Indian sandstone to enable a smaller carbon footprint, working with Natural England guidelines on bats (which have returned), the list goes on.
Now I am living in my new home I am really enjoying so much of what my house offers. To list a few: a warm home with low electricity bills, open plan living with ability to close off spaces through a pocket door etc, feeling a part of the landscape, a beautifully finished timber frame home with attention paid to interior and exterior finishes. With the growing challenges of climate change, dwindling resources and biodiversity loss I have a home for the future that uses minimal resources and is part of and aids its habitat.
The successful delivery by Mitchells of a new clubhouse was a game changer for our club. Although the club was successful, for many years its home was woefully short of basic contemporary standards which had become a limiting factor in its development.
The club undertook a rigorous procedure to ensure the selection of the builder who would be supportive of the challenges of a project that was primarily funded via public grants.
The project itself faced many challenges including architectural oversights, the late discovery of a high voltage cable close to the building which cause significant delays and time pressure to be ready of the start of the cricket season. By maintaining a close working relationship with Mitchells we were able to overcome these and successfully deliver the project.
The new clubhouse is widely regarded as a huge success by the club, the local community and the regional council who were key stakeholders in the project.
Throughout the project Mitrchells Construction demonstrated exceptional levels of professionalism and formed a close working relationship with the club’s committee to ensure its successful delivery.
As the project was primality funding via public grants, cost management was an overriding consideration and Mitchells were instrumental in helping to identify innovative solutions that delivered cost efficiencies whilst maintaining quality,
The project faced many challenges and Mitchells were proactive with resolving these issues which allowed the committee to focus on the remaining aspects of its responsibility. Mitchells always made themselves available, including outside working hours and weekends, to answer questions and discuss any matters in relation to the project.
Ben & Joe worked tirelessly over 7 months to transform our tired Robertsbridge cottage. In that time they were never less than professional, honest & easy to deal with. They made a complex subject for novices like us much easier to understand. Their advice was always helpful & their eye for detail always good. More importantly, what they built was everything & more we could have hoped for. Thank you both.
